United States Dental Golf Association Newsletter
December, 2009
Jim Alder and Don Meyer were this year’s Low Gross winners and recipients of our Woods and Palmer Division Trophies. In a very flashy ceremony, Brett Stephens and Dan Yaillen, last year’s Division Winners, reluctantly gave up their trophies and passed them on to Jim and Don, respectively. Congratulations to them both and Kudos to the rest of us for just showing up! The USA retained the Ryder “DENTAL” CUP in very close and well fought out matches during the week with our Scottish Dental Colleagues. Huge THANKS goes again to Charlie Lucero and Steve Spainhower for tabulating all of our scores throughout the week and taking care of the engraving on the trophies. Charlie’s wife, Tammy, helped, too! We had great weather and the courses were in terrific condition. Thanks again to Dr. Bruce Fiske for sharing his time and talents with the “Latest and Greatest” from the world of Orthodontics.
It was the general consensus of the group that we head to Florida next year and so I have made arrangements with the people at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club to provide for our needs. The sweet part of this is that the LPGA is playing that same week on the Island Course and so we will be playing that course on Monday so it should be in fantastic condition. We will then play the other three courses at Innisbrook, namely, Copperhead, North, and South and on Friday we are going to play a course off the property called World Woods which ranks in the top 100 of Golf Digest’s best courses to play in the US.
We will all need to stay “on-site” at the Resort in order to play the Resort Courses and so we have arranged a very nice package for accommodations and golf with them. The date that we have chosen is our normal time the week before Thanksgiving, November 14-20, 2010. If you want to look up the sites ahead of time, their websites are www.innisbrookresort.com and www.worldwoods.com.
I have reserved tee times for 36 players which is what we had this year. We also need to reserve the proper number of rooms at the Resort which will be critical this year with the LPGA residing there the same week. Please indicate on your deposit slip whether you are bringing your significant other who will not be playing golf or if you are planning on sharing a room with another golfer. It makes a difference as to how many rooms we reserve and will be monetarily responsible for.
Please respond with registration information and your deposit as soon as I need to let the hotel know how many rooms to hold for us. I will send out final registration materials in June.
Sincerely,
Ernie Thompson, Executive Director
